Wangan is located in the southern part of the Penghu Islands, between Magong and Cimei. About 33 km south of Magong, Wangan is 4 km in length, 1.8 km in width, with an area of 7.17 km², thus being the fourth largest island in Penghu.

Wangan is a tropical island, south of the Tropic of Cancer. It is influenced by the southwest monsoon in summer, with an average temperature of 27℃. In winter, though impacted by cold front from Siberia, but the average temperature is around 17℃, since the climate is regulated by the surrounding ocean. The average annual precipitation is 1000 mm.
