Fishermen use coral skeletons or stones to pile stone mounds about knee-high in the intertidal flats. Many bottom dwelling fish tend to hide in crevices and caves, thus these mounds provide a perfect hideout.
The fish will swim into the mounds during high tide, and when tide is low, fishermen will enclose the mounds in nets. When fish are disturbed while the fishermen remove the stones, they will swim right into the fishing nets.
