Fish living in the inshore normally swim in the direction of open sea when they’re suddenly disturbed. Gang-yu is a traditional artisan fishing method utilizing this concept. 

First, the net is set in a semi-circle way, with the opening facing towards the shore. Then fishermen will hit the water with sticks or poles, scaring the fish. As the fish try to swim to the open sea, they will be trapped on the net. However, less and less fishermen practice gang-yu in the present days.
